Army Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, made a special trip to Fort Indiantown Gap in Pennsylvania. He wanted to see firsthand the important work happening at the Eastern Army National Guard Aviation Training Site (EAATS). These brave individuals went above and beyond their duty when they responded to a wildfire at the installation last year. The fire, which started as a controlled burn, got out of control and threatened to spread rapidly.
These heroes quickly flew into action, dropping over 18,000 gallons of water from their helicopter to extinguish the blaze. Their dedication and bravery saved valuable resources and prevented further damage. General Hokanson presented them with coins to show his appreciation for their outstanding service.

He took a tour of EAATS, a place he had visited earlier in his career as a Black Hawk pilot. He even got to try out some of the latest equipment, including a CH-47F Chinook helicopter and the CH-47F Transportable Flight Proficiency Simulator. These cutting-edge technologies are crucial for ensuring that Army aviators are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in modern warfare.
Training for the Future
The EAATS is more than just a training ground; it’s a learning institution of excellence. They offer a wide range of training programs, including individual aircrew qualification, noncommissioned officer professional education, and specialized training for enlisted personnel in utility and cargo rotary-wing aircraft.
