Hotel Etico Rome is more than just a place to rest your head; it’s a beacon of inclusivity and opportunity. This unique hotel, nestled in the heart of Rome, stands out for its unwavering commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities. I was eager to experience this hotel firsthand, knowing it was staffed primarily by individuals with disabilities, and it exceeded my expectations in every way.

A Stay With A Purpose

My stay at Hotel Etico Rome was a memorable one. This non-profit hotel provides high-quality accommodation while offering valuable hospitality training for young people with disabilities. The hotel’s mission is to empower these individuals, equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in the hospitality industry. It’s truly inspiring to see Hotel Etico Rome making a tangible difference in the lives of its trainees.

Accessibility: A Top Priority

Despite being housed in a historic convent, accessibility is a top priority at Hotel Etico Rome. The hotel boasts well-designed accessible rooms that cater to the needs of wheelchair users. The rooms are spacious, offering ample circulation space and easy access to all amenities.

Wheelchair users will appreciate the smooth wooden floors, grab rails, and lowered safes. The accessible bathrooms are equipped with emergency call cords and transfer-friendly grab rails, ensuring safety and independence. While the small sitting area behind the bed could be slightly more wheelchair-friendly, the overall accessibility of the room is impressive.

Breakfast With a View

Hotel Etico Rome offers a delightful buffet breakfast in its accessible restaurant. While my early morning flight only allowed me to grab a few pastries, my travel companion, Amelia, savored the delicious breakfast selection.

Location: Perfect For Exploring

Hotel Etico Rome enjoys a convenient location, close to iconic landmarks like The Spanish Steps and Villa Borghese. The hotel is also within easy reach of public transportation, making it a perfect base for exploring Rome.

A Commitment to Inclusivity

What truly sets Hotel Etico Rome apart is its unwavering commitment to inclusivity. The hotel staff is comprised primarily of individuals with disabilities, providing them with a valuable platform to develop their skills and gain experience in the hospitality industry. While I unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to interact with any trainees during my weekend stay, I was fortunate to meet some of the dedicated young people during a previous visit to Hotel Etico in the Blue Mountains of NSW.

Their enthusiasm and optimism were truly inspiring. The success of Hotel Etico Rome has led to the establishment of a similar program in Australia, offering young people with disabilities a chance to learn valuable hospitality skills.

A Hotel With A Heart

Hotel Etico Rome embraces a simple yet powerful motto: “We are not the best hotel in the world, but we are the best FOR the world!” This non-profit hotel is a testament to the power of inclusivity and the importance of providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities. By choosing to stay at Hotel Etico Rome, you’re not just booking a room; you’re supporting a worthy cause and making a positive impact on the world.

If you’re planning a trip to Rome, I highly recommend choosing Hotel Etico Rome. It’s more than just a hotel; it’s an experience that will leave you feeling inspired and hopeful.
