The highly anticipated series delving into the captivating history of the iconic Italian fashion house, Gucci, took meticulous care to capture the essence of each era. The production team meticulously researched magazines, photographs, documentaries, and vintage Gucci products to faithfully recreate the atmosphere of each decade, paying close attention to even the smallest details.

From the music to the lighting, each fashion show was meticulously designed to transport viewers back in time.

Rome: A Canvas for Gucci’s Past

Rome became the central stage for the series, with its diverse architecture and vibrant atmosphere offering the perfect backdrop for the Gucci saga.

The “Insight” store in the Talenti area was transformed into the Gucci Fifth Avenue shop in New York, complete with dark gold and brown wood accents. The iconic New York backdrop was created with enormous blue backdrops while classic yellow taxis and bustling traffic provided the perfect touch of the Big Apple.

Other scenes were captured in the historic via dei Condotti and the modern Parco Leonardo in Fiumicino.

Milan: A City of Contrasts

While Rome provided the overall setting, Milan, the real-life heart of the Gucci empire, was faithfully replicated in several key scenes.

The production team used a real-life textile design studio in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome to depict Paolo Gucci’s design studio in Milan.

However, the location of the pivotal homicide scene presented a unique challenge. The real-life location on via Palestro in Milan was considered colorless and unimpressive, so the team sought a location in Rome that could credibly represent Milan. They found their answer in a location boasting a unique mix of architectural styles – Gothic, Renaissance, and Arabic – offering a perfect blend of grandeur and mystery.

The Gucci house in the series, which is actually located in the Coppedè neighborhood of Rome, captures the elegance and prestige of the Milan mansion.

Even the wedding ceremony was meticulously recreated, with the Church of the Holy Spirit in Milan replicated in the Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli church in Rome.

Reliving the Glamour: From Studio 54 to the Streets of New York

The series captures the opulent world of the Gucci family, from their glamorous gatherings at Studio 54 to their exclusive fashion shows.

The iconic Studio 54, a haven of late 1970s nightlife, was recreated in a series of “black boxes” in a large warehouse near Rome’s Fiumicino airport.

The production team also transformed the modern Milanese bank building into the eccentric Gucci emporium on Canal Street in Lower Manhattan, capturing the vibrant energy of 1980s New York.

They even recreated the 42nd Street market with its vintage postboxes, phone booths, fire hydrants, and hot dog carts – offering a glimpse into the hustle and bustle of early 1980s New York.

A Global Journey: From Milan to Saint Moritz

The series travels beyond the bustling cityscapes of Milan and New York, taking viewers to the picturesque Swiss resort town of Saint Moritz, where the Gucci family would often spend their winter holidays.

The breathtaking scenes of Saint Moritz were shot in the picturesque Val d’Aosta region of Italy, specifically in Gressoney-Saint-Jean.

The production utilized the historic Villa Loubenò and its surrounding areas, including the slopes of Weissmatten and the picnic area of Gressoney-La-Trinité, to capture the beauty and serenity of the Swiss Alps.

A Cinematic Masterpiece

The production team’s meticulous attention to detail and dedication to recreating authentic settings is a testament to their commitment to bringing the captivating story of the Gucci family to life. From the bustling streets of New York to the majestic Swiss Alps, the series offers a truly immersive cinematic experience that transports viewers back in time, allowing them to witness the rise and fall of a legendary fashion empire.
