Rome, oh Rome! After spending a week exploring this beautiful city, I’m feeling a little weary, but so incredibly fulfilled. My feet have walked a whopping 16,000 steps a day, which is way more than my usual routine. My back could use a bit of extra TLC, but it’s all worth it for the pure joy of strolling through Rome at my own pace.
This time, I took my time to truly savor every moment. I stopped at every monument and delved into its rich history. Equipped with this newfound knowledge, the city truly came alive for me.
Italian Style: A Feast for the Eyes
Beyond the ancient wonders, I was captivated by the effortless elegance of the Romans. It’s impossible to miss the Italians amidst the tourist crowds. They are the ones rocking those stylish wool coats, beautiful leather bags, and fabulous shoes.
What truly amazed me was the Italian commitment to looking good, even on a rainy day. Few wore raincoats or practical footwear. Looking put-together is simply a way of life here.
And it’s reflected in the abundance of charming boutiques lining the streets. This is a far cry from the endless malls I see in Portugal. Here, every corner presents a new opportunity to find a treasure.
A Deep Dive into Italian Style: Elegance and Beyond
While I adore the Italian sense of style, I can’t help but wonder if it might be a bit too important here? It seems like everyone strives to embody that stylish persona.
Of course, I understand the appeal. If I lived here, I would want to look the part too. But this pursuit of style comes at a price. The clothes aren’t cheap, and most Italians don’t opt for budget-friendly options.
However, if style truly brings them joy, then who am I to judge? It only becomes an issue when it becomes a source of pressure to fit in or when it exceeds one’s financial means.
Remember “la passeggiata,” the evening stroll where everyone gathers to see and be seen? This tradition perfectly encapsulates the Italian love for style. It’s about elegance, not extravagance. Forget casual clothes, here, it’s all about classic, simple elegance in understated color combinations.
Roman Style: Inspiration for Your Wardrobe
Does this mean you have to dress like an Italian when you visit Rome? Absolutely not! Casual style is also popular, and jeans are a common sight.
However, I can’t deny that I fell in love with the abundance of beautiful coats. They are the stars of the Roman wardrobe. Long, straight wool coats are all the rage, and they look fantastic layered with jeans.
Another popular option is the puffer coat, especially the short versions. These are often paired with chunky Chelsea boots.
I found myself captivated by all the stylish coats I saw, and when I stumbled upon a gorgeous one at H&M at a bargain price, I was tempted to buy it. But as I mentioned before, I’m trying to travel light and prioritize experiences over possessions. So I left it behind. However, my friend Saskia loved it and promptly snagged it for herself.
Roman Style: Monochromatic Elegance
Another recurring trend I noticed was the use of cream and white. Monochromatic cream looks are always chic, and they add a touch of timeless elegance.
And let’s not forget the classic combination of cream and camel. This pairing is effortlessly sophisticated and always looks polished.
Roman Style: More Than Just Clothes
In Rome, Italian women pay close attention to their accessories. Bags are a staple, but you’ll also see a lot of gloves.
So what are your thoughts on Roman style? Which of the styles I’ve highlighted are your favorites?
